Students Expelled Over Arson Will Not Be Re-Admitted To School Despite Court Orders – Magoha

Students Expelled Over Arson Will Not Be Re-Admitted To School Despite Court Orders – Magoha

On Saturday, December 18, Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha stated unequivocally that he will not comply with court orders requiring him to readmit students involved in arson.

Speaking at Kisumu’s Maseno School, the CS chastised the court, claiming that its directives endanger students’ lives.

Magoha’s reaction came in the aftermath of student unrest in schools.

“No single principal will be allowed to admit students who have a record of indiscipline issues in their previous schools,” he emphasized.

Furthermore, the CS instructed principals to identify students who were threatening to burn down schools and allow them to leave rather than closing the schools.

He reiterated that the ministry and other stakeholders were thinking about instituting canning in schools to reduce unrest.

Furthermore, the CS stated that national examinations (KCSE and KCPE) would proceed as planned with no changes.

The examinations are ready. Candidates should not panic. Let them be calm and prepare for the tests, which have taken into consideration challenges occasioned by disruptions to the academic calendar,” the CS stated.

Due to the unrest in schools, headteachers previously stated that they were ill-prepared and needed more time to prepare for the exams.

“When we brought on board Form Four students last year, other students stayed at home for long. During that period, they were not properly engaged, and some ventured into businesses while others became mischievous,” Kenya Secondary School Heads Association (KESSHA) chairperson Kahi Indimuli stated.

“While at home, they had a lot of free time. Once they came back to school, they realized that they were not prepared for the examinations,” he added.
