In Tana River County, a 16-year-old boy died after being mauled by a hippopotamus.
Mohammed Abdi Sambul was killed in the Saka, Madogo region.
The animal was grazing nearby before charging the victim and crushing him with its strong jaws.
Locals’ frantic attempts to wade into the water to save the youngster failed since the hippo’s massive jaws had already clamped down on him, killing him instantly.
Meanwhile, locals in the region have requested the necessary authorities to address the hippo’s repeated attacks.

Mohammed Abdi was killed on Wednesday while tending to his father’s livestock beside the Tana River.
Musa Kone, who had accompanied him in the grazing area, reported to reporters that the body was badly dismembered in a bush.
Police officers from Madgogo police station went to the crime scene and removed the deceased body.
In a statement to the press, senior chief Mumina Harun stated that although hippos reside in rivers, they move near towns in search of fodder, especially during droughts.
Harun urged KWS to increase patrols along the riverbanks to remove hippos and other wild animals from settlements.
MCA Juma Dido stated that many locals killed by wildlife had not been compensated, with some cases stretching back over four years.
Dido stated that KWS had not created a patrol office in Madogo despite the area’s propensity for animal attacks.

After the postmortem, the body of Abdi will be returned to the family for Islamic burial in a cemetery in Madogo.
