The dormitory was destroyed by a fire that broke out in the middle of the night while students were sleeping.
The cause of the fire, according to Laikipia county commissioner Joseph Kanyiri, has yet to be determined.
Students at the school went on a rampage and destroyed property three weeks ago.
This is the fourth school in the county to have a fire incident in the last few weeks. Loise Girls’ High, Muramati Secondary, and St Augustine Sirma Secondary School are among the others.
“Officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigation are on the ground. Let us not speculate on what transpired,” Kanyiri said.
The administrator, who expressed condolences to the bereaved family and the school community, warned students against starting fires.
He warned students to stop wreaking havoc. Kanyiri stated that the school committee will not hesitate to arrest and prosecute students who will be found guilty.
He stated that some students were over the age of 18 and could face charges in court.
“Schools are public properties. Let us not hide by saying the fire was caused by electric fault without proper investigations having been completed,” Kanyiri said.
He warned school administrators and parents to be watchful for signs that could preempt the destruction of school property.
The student’s body was taken to the mortuary at Nanyuki Teaching and Referral Hospital.
