Some of his colleagues were listed as witnesses in the lawsuit.

“I will never do it again. I ask for pardon,” the accused said.

Okore decided that the student would be imprisoned until Monday when he would be sentenced.

During the incarceration time, he will undergo age and mental testing.

About 176 students were affected when the dormitory was demolished. Investigations found that property worth Sh2.6 million was destroyed.

Police in Rachuonyo East sub-county had first detained the suspects and arraigned them before the court authorized them to keep them for more investigations.

The suspects are Form Two students at the institution.

The sub-county directorate of criminal investigations, Mark Lipale stated they required additional time to explore the issue on the grounds that certain suspects had not been detained.

Lipale signed an affidavit before senior magistrate Celesa Okore granted him permission to proceed.

“The police have not recorded statements from witnesses to aid in the prosecution of suspects. The debris collected from the scene has also not been analysed,” Lipale had asked.

The material was transported to a government chemist in Kisumu for analysis, but experts have not yet analyzed it to ascertain the cause of the fire.

The DCI officer asked the court to grant him five more days to properly complete investigations to examine the suspects.

The August 29 event left pupils counting losses after their academic papers were burned in the morning fire.
