Several Teachers Feared Dead in Evening School Bus Crash.
On Saturday, November 19, a school bus crashed in Taita Taveta County, Kenya, killing multiple people.
The collision occurred between Wundayi and Mwatate near the Josa black spot.
According to reports, the bus was transporting teachers from Memon Academy who were returning from a funeral in Kidaya.
“There is a bad crash at Taita on Josa black spot involving a Memon school bus (which was carrying adults), people have lost their lives (bodies lying on the ground), rescue ongoing,” shared Sikika Road Safety.
As of 9 p.m., three deaths had been reported.
However, the precise number of casualties had not yet been determined and was anticipated to climb.
Despite this, rescue operations were in progress.
Local people and first responders assisted in rescuing, surviving and removing bodies from the area.
Several bus collision survivors were taken to a local county hospital for initial care and admission.
According to images uploaded online, the school bus appeared to have repeatedly rolled into a ditch.
The accident occurred in the late afternoon and caused significant damage to the vehicle’s roof.
Suleiman Shahbal, a Mombasa businessman and newly-elected EALA representative, was among the first politicians to offer condolences to the relatives of the slain and best wishes to the survivors.
“I’m saddened by the reports of an accident involving the Memon Academy bus carrying teachers travelling to attend a funeral. The accident in Taita Taveta County is reported to have led to the loss of some of the teachers on the bus.
“My prayers and that of my wife Rahma go out to the family of the deceased, the injured, and the school management. May Allah rest the departed souls in eternal peace,” Shahbal eulogised.
The accident’s cause had not yet been determined at the time of publication.
