The Kenya Secondary Education Quality Improvement Project will benefit 38 schools in Loitoktok Sub County (SEQIP). There are 12 secondary and 26 primary public schools among these institutions.

The project will build 10 laboratories and 16 classrooms in the 12 secondary schools, as well as 26 toilets in the 26 primary schools.

SEQIP is a six-year intervention aimed at improving retention in upper primary and transition from primary to secondary education in targeted areas, according to Loitoktok Sub County Director of Education Peter Bitah.

Bitah stated that this would be accomplished by improving school infrastructure as well as providing scholarships, mentorship, advocacy, gender sensitization, and social support.

Bitah went on to say that the World Bank-funded project aims to help the country address the challenges of education waste in grades 7 and 8, as well as low enrolment of girls in vulnerable and marginalized areas.

According to the Educationist, the beneficiaries would benefit from capacity building of teaching staff aimed at improving the quality of education in the Sub County.

Bitah expressed gratitude that Loitoktok Sub County is one of 110 sub-counties benefiting from the project across 30 targeted counties.
