Private Primary Schools Can Start Junior High Section – Magoha.

George Magoha, Cabinet Secretary for Education, has stated that private primary schools are free to open junior secondary schools.

Magoha said yesterday that the government would approve proposals from private schools that want to open junior secondary schools, saying they only need to show they have space and can hire teachers who follow the Competency-Based Curriculum.

“Proprietors of private schools who have space for expansion and have the financial capacity to construct at least two classrooms within a month that will host the junior secondary should apply.”

“We are encouraging them to create junior secondary schools within their primary schools at their own cost.” the CS added.

Magoha noted that those who are unable to build new classrooms can repair CBC classrooms in their primary wings if they have extra classes.

He was speaking at St Marys Girls High School during an inspection of newly constructed CBC classrooms. However, the Education Secretary stated that the government will not fund the construction of CBC classrooms in private schools.

Magoha’s remarks come just days after the Kenya Private Schools Association, led by national chairman Charles Ochome, asked the government to consider funding private schools for infrastructure development.

According to the CS, parents who choose to send their children to private schools should be prepared to pay for it.
