Mabanga Girls’ Dormitory Destroyed By Fire
A dormitory at St Christopher’s Mabanga Girls High School in Kabuchai, Bungoma’s Luuhya/Bwake district, was burned down Wednesday evening, and property of unknown value was destroyed.
The dormitory could accommodate 300 students. No students were hurt.
MCA Luuya/Bwake The incident was denounced by Edwin Opwora.
Opwora stated that he received a phone call from the school notifying him that the building was on fire.
The MCA urged Governor Ken Lusaka to endeavor to ensure that Bungoma has available firefighting equipment and hotlines to assist institutions during times of disaster.
The school principal, who declined to be identified because she was not authorized to speak to the media, said the incident was reported to the Nalondo police station and was being investigated.
“I am also expecting to have a meeting with the board of management to find the way forward,” she said.
Opwora urged officials, led by Lusaka, to act and assist the school in obtaining fresh beds, uniforms, boxes, and blankets for the pupils who are currently stuck.
“Students lost everything, we need support for them to continue learning,” he said.
