Schools Capitation to be Released by Friday — Machogu

Ezekiel Machogu, cabinet secretary of education, has announced that schools will receive capitation funds by Friday, June 9, 2023.

Wednesday, while responding to queries from members of parliament, Machogu stated that there was a delay in the distribution of funds.

“I would like to inform all the MPs here that capitation funds which are the tune of Sh28 billion, the treasury was supposed to have given the funds before Friday last week but there was a delay,” Machogu said.

The CS stated that he has coordinated with the Treasury to discharge the funds, as the issue affects the entire nation.

Machogu reported to the honorable members and the nation at large that he had received confirmation that the funds would be in the ministry by the following day. He further stated that once the funds arrived, they would proceed to distribute them to all schools across the country.

“And I hope by Friday of this week our schools will be able to receive capitation funds… We are sorry for the delay but by the end of the week, the money should be in the accounts of the schools.”

This is in response to school administrators’ complaints that they are struggling to keep students in school due to rising commodity costs and delays in the delivery of capitation funds.

If the government does not release school capitation funds, the institutions will be compelled to close.

Due to a lack of currency, they are now compelled to purchase supplies on credit, prompting them to assert that the government must intervene immediately.
