Schoolgirl Thrown From Speeding Matatu.
In an alleged carjacking in Homa Bay, a secondary school girl was thrown out of a speeding matatu.
The Tuesday evening incident resulted in serious injuries to a student at Dudi Girls Secondary School.
According to Kanyach Kachar chief Bernard Omuga, the incident occurred after two unknown passengers carjacked the matatu at the Rodi Kopany trading centre in Homa Bay on Wednesday.
The two criminals disguised as passengers boarded the vehicle transporting passengers to Oyugis.
One sat in the co-seat, driver’s the other in the back.
When the driver and tout exited the vehicle to pick up more passengers, the man in the co-seat driver’s took over the wheel and drove off at a high speed towards Oyugis town.
However, when the vehicle hit a bump near Ndiru village on the Rodi Kopany – Oyugis road, the girl was reportedly pushed out.
“The girl will tell us the truth because some say the girl rolled after being pushed out of the vehicle while others say she jumped out of the vehicle after sensing danger,” Omuga said.
The girl was rushed to Rodi Kopany Township Hospital before being transferred to Homa Bay County Teaching & Referral Hospital.
According to reports, the girl suffered serious injuries to various parts of her body.
The whereabouts of the passengers are unknown.
According to Omuga, the suspects drove the vehicle to an unknown location.
“My last conversation with touts at Rodi Kopany revealed that the vehicle is still missing,” he said.
Officer Monica Berege of the Homa Bay subcounty Directorate of Criminal Investigations stated that the matter is being investigated.
She stated that anyone with information about the incident or the passengers’ whereabouts should contact her.
Berege said the matter has not been formally reported but they are looking for the vehicle.
