School Uses Babu Owino’s Online Math Lessons to Motivate KCPE Candidates
The online math lessons of Babu Owino have a direct effect on a school in the county of Homa Bay.
Mirogi Boarding School, a public primary school in Homa Bay, has been live-streaming classes seven and eight master classes taught by Babu Owino.
The senior math teacher, Amos Otieno, led the practice with help from the headteacher, Consolata Luteshi.
Otieno says he had been following Owino’s classes for some time and was enthusiastic about the MP’s KCPE-focused program.
“I have been following Babu Owino’s online classes. Before, he used to teach the Form Four classes, but when I saw he was to handle KCPE, I thought it was prudent for my pupils to tune in,” teacher Amos told Kenyans.co.ke.
“I was particularly interested because he had promised to talk about the KCPE exam setting and how to tackle the questions,” he added.
Otieno stated that the students directly benefited. Some had difficulty completing equations using BODMAS and fractions, but after the class, there was a big improvement.
Otieno remarked on the improvement, “It is more about getting an external perspective and especially from someone Babu Owino who is renowned public figure.”
The online lesson also made the students want to do more because of what Babu Owino had done in politics and what he did for a living.
Otieno believed that most schools could benefit from the MP’s program if adequately supported.
He says the classes consume a lot of internet bundles, which could pose a problem for many schools.
In their situation, the headteacher, Consolata Luteshi facilitates the entire exercise.
He urged Babu Owino to consider sending mathematicians to every county so that more students might benefit from this great endeavor.
Otieno told Babu to keep the same attitude, saying he was a good example for young people all over the country.
“Because of his good work, students are falling in love with mathematics and school in general,” the teacher remarked.
