A family in Amuka village, Kwale county is calling for justice after their Form three son committed suicide on Thursday.




The student from Stephen Kanja Secondary School had reportedly been sent home on the same day he committed suicide. He was suspended after causing a disturbance during a prayer session in the school.

According to his grandmother, Alice Mueni, the student’s body was discovered dangling from the roof shortly after he returned home from school.




“He told me that he had been sent away from school because he was fighting with another students during school prayers and had been told to go back on Monday in the company of his guardian, ” Ms Mueni said.




His family blamed the school management for the punishment, stating that the matter should have been handled differently.

Riots broke out at the school after the incident as angry students demanded justice for their comrade. In the course, school property of unknown value was destroyed.

Following the riots, the school stated that the school has been shut down indefinitely as a probe into the matter begins.
