24,000 Students Get Sh81 Million Kericho County Bursaries
Kericho County’s 24,000 students are overjoyed after the Kericho County Government awarded them school bursaries worth Sh81 million.
During the disbursement of the funds, the area Deputy Governor, Ms. Lily Ngok, stated that the students in the County’s secondary and tertiary institutions were in need and would benefit greatly from the funds by being able to continue their studies uninterrupted.
Ms. Ngok stated that the Kericho Bursary Fund Act, which was passed by the County Assembly, has been a success because many needy students have been helped to continue their education, and that more students will benefit from the kitty in the future as more funds become available.
“This life-transforming initiative has of today collectively distributed Sh775 million benefitting over 182,203 students, thus contributing a lot to the social development of our County,” reiterated Ms. Ngok.
She stated that the first students who benefited from the funds while in secondary school in 2016 are now benefiting from them again in their tertiary institutions.
“In fact, we have a few beneficiaries who have now completed their education and are pursuing various professions, contributing to our nation’s socioeconomic well-being, and we are very proud of that achievement,” Ms. Ngok added.
The deputy governor was joined at the bursary award ceremony by representatives from the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT), and the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET).
