Qualifications and How to Apply for US Green Cards In Kenya

The US Embassy in Nairobi has issued an invitation to apply for the Diversity Visa Program, also known as the Green Card.

Kenyans interested in applying should do so through the US State Department website between October 5 and November 8, 2022.

“The entry form will only be available for submission during this period and this period only. Entries will not be accepted through the US Postal Service,” cautioned the embassy.

Notably, any mistakes in the application, such as incomplete entry forms, may result in disqualification.

“You should consider not pursuing a DV application if you do not meet the qualifying education or work experience requirements explained below as you may not be eligible for a diversity visa and any fees you pay for the visa application will not be refunded,” the embassy stated.

Qualifications

Education

All applicants must have completed a formal elementary and secondary school education program equivalent to a 12-year program in the United States.

Furthermore, only formal courses of study are acceptable, and equivalency certificates such as the General Educational Development (G.E.D) are not.

Although there is no upper age limit, you must be over the age of 16 to demonstrate that you have completed at least 12 years of formal primary and secondary schooling.

Work experience

Applicants must have at least two years of experience in the previous five years.

Job Zone 4 or 5 occupations require at least two years of training or experience, according to US Department of Labor definitions, and are classified in a Specific Vocational Preparation (SVP) rating of 7.0 or higher.

Passport

Provide a valid passport number as an applicant. For international travel, the passport must be valid. It is worth noting that you should not apply if you listed an invalid passport number on your application.

Also, keep in mind that if you chose an exemption from the passport requirement and did not meet the requirements for the exemption, you may not be eligible for a diversity visa, and any visa application fees you paid will not be refunded.

“Only you as the principal applicant must meet these requirements, your spouse and children do not have to meet the requirements,” the embassy explained.

Notably, Kenyans have been asked to keep a close eye out for fraudsters who prey on inexperienced applicants.
