Promote Sporting Activities in Educational Institutions, Principal Emphasizes
Sporting activities should be promoted in educational institutions across the country to promote cohesion and peaceful coexistence among students from diverse backgrounds.
Mr. John Otieno Akola, Principal of the Senior Principal Kitale National Polytechnic, stated at an award ceremony for tournament winners that the tournament aimed to promote cohesion as well as identify talent among students.
Akola stated that the tournament was initiated by the institution two years ago and that it has aided in the promotion of sports and talents among students.
In the finals, the Electrical Engineering team defeated their IT counterparts 2-1 and was thus crowned Principal Cup 2022 champions.
Electronics Youth Assistant Coach Joash Mmasi and his assistant Collins Ochieng played a high-quality game, scoring in the 15th minute through striker Peter Groach.
In the 35th minute, IT defender Shadrack Ouma scored an own goal while attempting to control the ball in the defense area, giving their opponents a second score.
Allan Kasembeli scored the goal for IT.
After a 1-1 tie, Electronics advanced to the finals by defeating the Building team 3-2 on penalties.
IT Assistant Coach Mugo Weru and Maxwel Sigowa qualified after Business was disqualified for misconduct.
In the same field, IT qualified for the finals by defeating Business 30-12, and the Beauties of Application defeated Agriculture 30-18.
The tournament was organized by the institution’s principal, John Akola, with the goal of promoting peace and highlighting the talents of students.
Business FC was crowned champions last year after defeating Electrical Engineering 2-1. Winners in each category received trophies and various gifts, including a meal voucher and a trip to Mombasa.
