ROLE SUMMARY
The overall purpose is to carry out the professional duties of a teacher as circumstances may require and in accordance with the school’s policies under the direction of the Deputy Principal.
The individuals are expected to be effective professionals who demonstrate thorough curriculum knowledge, can teach and assess effectively, take responsibility for professional development, and have students who achieve well.
Additionally, the role holders should make a significant contribution to the vision and direction of Fairmonts International School.
KEY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
– Planning, preparing and delivering lessons to all students in the class.
– Teaching according to the educational needs, abilities and achievements of the individual students.
– Adopting and working towards the implementation of the FIS development plan.
– Assigning work, correcting and marking work carried out by your students.
– Assessing, recording and reporting on the development, progress, attainment and behaviour of your students.
– Prepare assessment, mark and compile results as per the class assigned.
– Any other reasonably requested duties.
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
Interested applicants should meet the following minimum requirements:
– Bachelor’s Degree in Education or Diploma in Education.
– TSC Registration is MANDATORY.
– Teaching experience not lasting less than 3 years in the respective curricula (CBC/British).
– Excellent customer service skills
– Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse staff;
– Strong organizational skills;
– Excellent oral and written communication;
– Ability to perform and multi-task in a highly energized work environment;
– A keen eye for details;
– Excellent interpersonal skills.
– Cambridge training (Applicable for British Unit teachers only).
– Professional course(s) in IT (Applicable to the ICT teacher position only).

Key responsibilities for the role include:
– Teach and deliver exceptional, real world, hands-on and enquiry-based Science and Technology lessons that align with the Kenya curriculum requirements.
– Maintain positive, constructive and professional relationships with students, their families and colleagues.
– Develop lesson plans and partner with the Academic Team in reviewing and updating lessons when required/desired.

– Set and communicate rigorous and ambitious goals for all students and provide effective student feedback so they internalize them.
– Provide consistent rewards and/or consequences for student behavior and model expected behaviour at all times for students to emulate
– Consistently meet the ambitious goals of a rapidly-growing organization
– Serve as teacher on duty and support school programs and activities.
– Capture students data on academic outcomes timeously and articulate students progress to NP families and other stakeholders when called upon.
– Serve as a homeroom teacher when called upon.
Skills and Qualifications required:
– TSC certification and a relevant Degree in Education such as Bed Science, P1 Diploma specialised in Science and with an ICT certification.
– Additional qualification in the field of Information, Communication and Technology (Certificate, Diploma, Higher Diploma, etc) is preferable.
– Strictly 3-5 years teaching experience in Science and Technology.
– Ability to teach coding is highly desirable.
– Great communicator. You are able to provide clear and effective written and verbal communication.
– Flexible and open to change – you handle uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity well.
– Problem solver – you are proactive in identifying issues and address these thoroughly by making an effort to find appropriate solutions.
– Curious, lifelong learner with a passion for discovery and exploration.

There are a series of stages in the Nova Pioneer interview process and candidates will be moved forward in the process depending on their success in the previous stage. The process is as follows:
– Phone interview: a short conversation to understand your skills and experience a little better.
– Practical demonstration of what you can do: you will complete a written task or a demonstration related to the role you are applying for. Teachers participate in a half-day selection day at one of our campuses as well as deliver a lesson to a class.
– In-person interviews: at this point, you will visit one of our schools to meet the team and participate in a series of in-person interviews.
– Final interview: you’ll have a final conversation with the hiring manager before decisions are made.
