Let Learners Relax On Holiday, Parents Urged

Let Learners Relax On Holiday, Parents Urged.

Parents have been urged to allow their children to relax and engage in recreational activities over the next two weeks, with only a few hours of study.

Kiambu Sub-County Director of Education Roselyne Litaba, has advised that because of the fixed timeline, the candidates could focus on some revision.

“We do not encourage parents to pay for tuition for their children at this moment of the holidays, but they should be allowed to relax,” she said.

Litaba noted that the young people are getting mental illnesses due to the stress and pressure of crash course academic programmes.

“We advise parents to seek additional guidance and counselling for their children if they notice stress issues or abnormal behavior.”

“Those who are unable to continue their education due to mental issues should be encouraged by their parents to learn other useful skills,” she advised.

As schools close, various parents have made individual plans for their children during this brief break, ranging from tuition to leisure activities.

Jane Mutisya, a mother of two girls in form three and four in Kiambu town, told KNA that she intends to let her children relax.

“This holiday is too short for me to make my children go for tuition. They can use this time to rest and even check what they need for the next term without rushing.

“Also, my daughter in high school can now have enough sleep away from the busy schedule in school,” she said.

Some parents, however, told KNA that they have tuition plans in place for their children to keep them engaged in their studies.

John Kanja, a father of two boys and one girl in form four, class seven, and class five, respectively, told KNA that the majority of their time will be spent in books.

“I have a candidate in the house and it is mandatory for him to study in preparation of his final exams.

“But for the other two, I prefer they join in the study time for they are not to be reluctant to read their books,” he stated.
