Parents Warned Against Inappropriate Dressing While Visiting Schools
Leonard Kabaki, the Director of Education for Siaya County, has cautioned parents about their dress sense while dropping off and picking up their children from school.
This warning was issued in response to the Bishop Okoth Mbaga secondary school’s Deputy Principal, Judith Awino, who had advised parents on the etiquette of dressing when visiting school premises.
Kabaki urged parents to avoid dressing “too skimpy” when visiting school premises to set a good example and show standards of dress.
Kabaki stressed that parents should be role models, and wearing inappropriate clothing could give a wrong impression to the children.
He compared the relationship between parents and schools to that of a man and his in-laws, where the man must accept the rules of the in-laws, even if he thinks they are wrong.
Kabaki also warned parents against making negative comments about schools on social media. He advised that parents should contact the school administration or his office if they have any issues that need to be addressed.
Earlier, Judith Awino, the Deputy Principal of Bishop Okoth Mbaga secondary school, had expressed concern about parents dressing in miniskirts, low-cut tops, and even pyjamas when accompanying their children to and from school.
Awino requested parents to dress modestly and appropriately, which she claimed was a request made by the children.
Some former students also confirmed that the school’s administration had always been strict about dress codes for parents and students.
One former Mbaga girls’ high school student disclosed that the administration had sent her away for wearing trousers when she went to collect her certificate. The school only gave her the certificate when she returned wearing a skirt.
In conclusion, parents should take note of the school’s dress code and dress appropriately while visiting school premises. They should also refrain from making negative comments about schools on social media and seek redress through the appropriate channels.
