Nova Pioneer is looking for a superstar High School Kiswahili Teacher to serve as a 3 months maternity cover for our Tatu City Girls Campus. Please note this applies to teachers who have 3+ years teaching experience. You will play a critical role in delivering an exceptional 21st Century learning experience for our students.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Key responsibilities for the role include: 

  • Teach and deliver exceptional, real-world, enquiry-based Kiswahili lessons that align with the Kenya curriculum requirements.
  • Maintain positive, constructive and professional relationships with students, their families and colleagues. 
  • Develop lessons plans and partner with the Learning Design Team in reviewing and updating lessons when required/ desired.
  • Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning, is developmentally appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students and maintain an organized and focused learning environment.
  • Infuse joy and passion for learning in lessons so that students are excited and interested in their academic excellence.  



  • Provide necessary accommodations and modifications for the growth and success of all students, both in academic and cultural expectations.
  • Be accountable for student's mastery of content and academic standards.
  • Integrate interactive technology into lessons to enhance instructional delivery.
  • Set and communicate rigorous and ambitious goals for all students and provide effective student feedback so they internalize them.
  • Provide consistent rewards and/or consequences for student behaviour and model expected behaviour at all times for students to emulate
  • Consistently meet the ambitious goals of a rapidly-growing organization



  • Serve as a teacher on duty and/or boarding teacher on duty and support school-wide programs aimed at behaviour interventions.
  • Timely capture of students data on academic outcomes and articulation of students progress to NP families and other stakeholders when called upon to do so.
  • Serve as a homeroom teacher when called upon to do so.

Skills and Qualifications required:

  • TSC certification and a relevant Degree in Education.
  • Strictly 3+years teaching experience.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Key responsibilities for the role include:

  • Provide a safe and secure environment for children to feel comfortable.
  • Plan and execute appropriate activities for the children each day according to the curriculum, schemes of work and lesson plans.
  • Provide a variety of materials and resources for children to explore, manipulate, and use, both in learning activities and in imaginative play.
  • Prepare materials, classrooms, and other indoor and outdoor spaces to facilitate creative play, learning and motor-skill activities, and safety.



  • Observe and evaluate each child’s progress and provide a written report to the Principal through line manager(s) and other school leaders and parents.
  • Monitor and keep record/ reports of the children’s progress and development.
  • Instruct learners individually and in groups, adapting teaching methods to meet learners' varying needs and interests.
  • Establish and enforce rules for behavior, and policies and procedures to maintain order among learners.



  • Plan and supervise class projects, field trips, visits by guests, or other experiential activities, and guide learners in learning from those activities.
  • Attended professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops in order to maintain and improve professional competence.
  • Participate in character building and behaviour management.

Role-specific responsibilities for an Islamic Religious Education Specialist include:

  • Deliver IRE Lessons under the Nova Pioneer Instructional Model in line with CBC and/or 8-4-4 requirements, based on level.
  • Oversee and coordinate IRE activities and projects in the school programme.



  • Prepare Schemes of Work and design plans for IRE lessons. 
  • Set relevant themes for school IRE activities and programmes.
  • Organise IRE  events in and outside school.

 

ABOUT YOU

Skills and Qualifications required:

  • You have a TSC certificate.
  • A relevant degree in Education/ P1 Diploma/ P1 Certificate.
  • You have 1-2+ years teaching experience.



  • You have good working skills with technology such as Zoom, Google Suites (Gmail, Google Slides), Word, Powerpoint and Excel.
  • You are a great communicator. You are able to provide clear and effective written and verbal communication.
  • You are flexible and open to change – you handle uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity well.

This is a temporary role opening (2- 4 weeks teacher coverage) where applications will be reviewed on a rolling/ continuous basis.

There are a series of stages in the Nova Pioneer interview process and candidates will be moved forward in the process depending on their success in the previous stage. The process is as follows:

  • Phone interview: a short conversation to understand your skills and experience a little better.
  • Practical demonstration of what you can do: you will complete a written task or a demonstration related to the role you are applying for. Teachers sit an assessment and deliver a lesson to a class.
  • Final interview: you’ll have a final conversation with the hiring manager before decisions are made.

The Associate Dean of Instruction and Learning, with the support of the School Principal and the Dean of Instruction and Learning, shall have responsibility for the following key areas:

Instructional Leadership

  • Coach teachers through extensive observation and feedback
  • Facilitate collaboration among teachers within/across grade levels and subject areas
  • Supervise professional development routines and activities across the school
  • Serve as the hiring manager for instructional staff hires



  • Quickly identify and respond to classroom/school culture or behaviour issues
  • Collect, analyze, share and interpret internal and external school assessment data and ensure that data is used strategically to improve student academic performance
  • Oversee planning, execution and analysis of intervention programs targeted at the needs of diverse academic subgroups, whether remedial or enrichment
  • Lead instruction sessions for parents



  • Follow up with the Learning Design team on teachers’ feedback on lesson plans
  • Coordinate with the Academic Support team on the availability of learning materials and teaching resources.

 

ABOUT YOU

  • You have 2+ years of experience in instructional leadership and/or coaching experience in a rigorous high expectations lower and/or upper primary school setting.
  • You have your TSC number and certificate.
  • You have a minimum qualification of a P1 Diploma in Education; a Degree in Education is desirable. 



  • You are widely recognised as a highly effective teacher and can model what great, inquiry-based teaching looks like.
  • You consistently seek out opportunities to grow, whether by asking others for feedback, forming communities of learning with other school leaders or seeking out training.
  • You have a track record of improving other people’s performance through coaching, building uncommonly strong relationships, developing creative training sessions and sharing feedback.
