Why 2020 KCSE Results is unlikely to be released today – Friday, May 7th.

Speculation was high in media circles that the Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha would release the 2020 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results, today on Friday.

However, it remains questionable as the exam-marking exercise will be concluded on Friday. Magoha will hold a press conference at the Starehe Boys’ Centre and School at 11:30 am.

Due to credibility, moderation, and verification demands, it is unlikely that the results would be finalized and sent to President Uhuru Kenyatta for review before being released.

Earlier statements in the media hinted that marking was concluded on Tuesday, and the examiners released to go home. However, the truth is that the exercise was still ongoing, and will be closed officially on Friday.

A section of the examiners had completed marking the exams by Monday. They were the first batch to be released from the marking centers. On April 21, Magoha stated that the secondary school test results would be released by May 10, ahead of the resumption of Term Three studies.

If CS Magoha is to release the 2020 KCSE results before schools reopen, he will be under pressure to ensure the results are out by Monday. This means that the remaining examination processes which include moderation, verification, analysis, and tabulation must be concluded by the weekend.

This will similarly depend on whether professor Magoha gets an appointment with President Kenyatta for the compulsory briefing ahead of the release of the examination results.

751,150 candidates sat for the 2020 KCSE examination this year.
