Turkana Teachers Protest over 2 years denial of house allowances by TSC

Teachers at St Kevin’s Secondary School in Lodwar, Turkana County, have been protesting for two years against the denial of house allowances.

The enraged teachers claimed that the school had been removed from the Lodwar municipality’s list of schools, denying them access to house allowances.

When contacted for comment, Turkana Teachers Service Commission county director Lewis Mutegi stated that the matter had been forwarded to TSC headquarters.

Teachers, led by James Emuron, have stated that they have not received their house allowances since July 2019.

He claimed that their attempts to contact their employer to find out why the school was removed from the list of schools were futile.

Even after writing a letter, Emuron claims that it is taking too long for the error to be corrected.

He stated that the school is located in the heart of Lodwar and that denying them house allowances is unfair, discriminatory, and a witch-hunt directed at teachers.

“If we only walk ten minutes from the school to the Teachers Service Commission office in Lodwar, a distance of less than two kilometers, how are we not in the municipality?” Emuron stated.

He claimed that cartels at the TSC had hidden their files, delaying their case for more than two years.
