TSC, KNUT ASK TEACHERS TO TAKE FREE COVID 19 Vaccine

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) and the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) have asked teachers to take the Covid-19 vaccine. The Commission on Tuesday morning issued a list of covid-19 vaccination centers for teachers.

And while speaking on Monday, the executive secretary of Mwingi Michael Munyasia thanked the government for the initiative to vaccinate teachers and the teaching fraternity.

“What we are saying is that as a union we cannot stop an individual

from being vaccinated neither can we force an individual or make that choice on their own power. As a union, we are saying let the teachers

decide. The individual teachers will make the decision whether to be vaccinated or not be vaccinated.

Therefore it is the duty of the government to lay down the strategies, give the possibility and the accuracy of these drugs whether these drugs are

going to affect our teachers or not, and it is the duty the personal duty of a teacher to decide.

So the decision is an individual decision that is our standard. Given that the KCPE is just around the corner, very soon we’ll have these teachers interacting with the learners which of course is something that has been happening even before the vaccination.

What we are saying is that let teachers, the pupils, and even the invigilators who will be engaged in this examination observe COVID-19 protocol. Let them wear a face mask, let them have sanitizers, let there be enough wash hand washing points in all the schools and I think with the

social distance this thing will go on smoothly without any challenge
