No Child Will Be Allowed In School On Monday Without Face Masks. Magoha Says

Summary:

  • Only about five litres of sanitisers will be allowed in school compounds and will only be handled by teachers.
  • The government has procured over 7 million masks that will be issued to children from disadvantaged students.

Education Cabinet Secretary Prof Magoha has said the government will not accept large quantities of hand sanitisers in schools. The CS said that only approximately 5 litres of sanitizers will be allowed in school compounds and will only be managed by teachers.

“Children to not be turned away from schools is not a blank cheque for parents who can afford to pay school fees. Teachers should be vigilant to identify children who are in need & cannot afford school fees.” Education CS has said.

Speaking during a press briefing, Magoha said that teachers should be vigilant to identify children who are in need and cannot afford school fees.

On children’s safety CS Magoha said the government has done enough to ensure that children, teachers and other staff will be fully protected once they resume school tomorrow.

Although social distancing will be a challenge Magoha confirmed that it will not stop schools from reopening tomorrow. Parents have also been asked to try and at least provide their children with two masks.

“Parents who can buy masks, to do so & ensure at least 2 reusable masks per child. Teachers should be innovative; every open space; dining hall, school auditorium can be used as classrooms. Learning under a tree is extremely healthy.” Said Magoha.

He added that the Government will provide three million needy students with face masks as learning resumes on Monday. He urged schools to utilize all space in the school for learning and ensuring that social distance is maintained.

“Sh7 billion stimulus package proposed by private schools to help them conform to the government’s guidelines will be considered and addressed when time is conducive.” He added.
