The National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) has begun construction of girls’ secondary schools in Ganze constituency to close the gender education gap.

The Ganze NG-CDF board launched the construction of the first girls’ secondary school in Kauma Sub County and the Bahero Girls Secondary School in Ganze Ward over the weekend, bringing the constituency’s total number of girls secondary schools to five.

The board also began construction on an administration building at Bamba Girls Secondary School in Bamba Ward, which was also funded by the NG-CDF in the 2018/2019 fiscal year.

According to local leaders, the goal is to provide girls with the opportunity to attend school and to reduce the threat of teen pregnancy, which is largely attributed to the distance girls must travel to attend school.

Kilifi County Women Representative Gertrude Mbeyu, who attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the proposed Kauma Girls Secondary School in Mdangarani, praised the fund for its efforts to improve girls’ access to education in the sub-county.

She stated that the school would allow more girls in the area to attend school.

Haro Deche Mwatsuma, the Kauma Sub County Director of Education, echoed her sentiments, saying the area still needed more schools because there are only five in the area and the new school would be the sixth.
