The police in Kwanza Sub County have opened investigations into the killing of a third-year student at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) whose body was discovered abandoned in a woodland near the Aturkan Hotel in Kitale Town.

James Odero, deputy county police commander for Kwanza, verified the event, stating that she was strangled by an unidentified individual before being thrown into the jungle.

He stated that the scene was recorded and appropriate action was taken.

“The body of the third-year medical student was found in a forest with no visible injuries, indicating that she was strangled by persons known to her,” he said.

“We have launched investigations into the matter to establish what could have led to her being murdered and possibly net those involved in her death.”

Leaders in the region, led by Hospital ward representative Eric Wafula, lamented the tragic death of the student and sought prompt investigations.

“It is sad that such a young girl met her death in unclear circumstances. As a representative of this area, I wish to pass condolences to my people and ask that a quick investigation be carried out to arrest those involved,” he said.

Maurice Bisau, a member of parliament from Kiminini, concurred that it was regrettable that the student had been brutally murdered.

He encouraged the police to conduct a comprehensive investigation to determine the reason of her death.

The body was sent to the Kitale County Hospital Referral morgue in preparation for an autopsy.
