Students at St Benedict Secondary School Kituli in Machakos were forced to flee after bees attacked the examination center.
The students, who were scheduled to take the Kiswahili Paper on Thursday, March 17, were attacked by a swarm of bees before the exam began.
The bees infiltrated three classrooms used by candidates taking the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education in 2021. (KCSE).
Students were transferred to nearby learning institutions by education officers and invigilators so that they could continue with their exams.
Veronicah Kalungu, the Kathiani education officer, confirmed the incident and stated that no students were injured.
After the students had gone, police officers remained to help fumigate the area.
“The students were awaiting to sit for Kiswahili Lugha and Insha papers when the bees attacked them and overwhelmingly camped in the classrooms,” Kalungu stated.
Meanwhile, Cabinet Secretary for Education, George Magoha, was on the ground at Sir Newton High School in Eastleigh, Nairobi County, monitoring the 2021 KCSE Kiswahili Insha paper.
He spoke briefly to the media, stating that mobile phones were a major impediment to the national exams. He stated that on the third day of the tests, examination officials seized dozens of cell phones from candidates.
Despite numerous attempts to taint the examination process, CS Magoha assured the public that the KCSE exam had not been leaked.
