On Sunday evening, a fire broke out at Buru Buru Girls High School, sending several students to the hospital.

The school’s administration, on the other hand, stated that none of the students were burned as a result of the fire at the Kingdom dormitory, despite reports that unnamed students had threatened to torch the school.

”Several students have been rushed to hospital after inhaling the smoke fumes,” an official at the school said, “We don’t have injuries from the fire.”

However, video footage that went viral on social media showed some of the students jumping from higher floors while onlookers stood helplessly by after they were denied access to the school to help with the rescue efforts.

He stated that at least 20 people were taken to the hospital following the incident, which occurred around 5 p.m.

All of the students taken to the hospital, according to Buru Buru Divisional Police Chief Francis Kamau, were complaining of suffocation.

“We don’t have any student with burns,” he told Capital FM News on telephone soon after the fire that caused panic at the institution.

Soon after the fire started, more than a dozen parents arrived at the school and demanded to be allowed to take their children home, resulting in a standoff.

“No one is telling us anything and that is why we want to be allowed to go home with our children,” one parent said.

As firefighters struggled to put out the blaze, police and school administration struggled to keep the agitated parents under control.

“All we want to know is about the safety of our children but no one is telling us, they are just saying we should wait,” another parent said.

The incident was downplayed in a statement sent to the parents by the chairperson of their association.

“We confirm that the fire incident was in 1 of the 45 cubicles of the Kingdom Hostel. It was immediately contained such that even curtains are intact. The incident caused serious panic among students. Any affected student is in safe hands,” it stated.
