60,000 Teachers Gear up for CBC Training.The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has scheduled 60,000 teachers for training on the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) and Competency-Based Assessment (CBA) in preparation for students entering junior secondary school the following year.According to Chief Executive Nancy Macharia, the training is aimed at instructors who work with students in grades 7 to 9 in private, public regular, and special needs schools.The first level of instruction, according to Dr. Macharia, will focus on languages, pure sciences, applied sciences, mathematics, humanities, and technological disciplines.Field officers were told to choose six instructors from each of the six subject areas for the exercise, which will take place from April 25 through May 13, 2022. The instructors will be divided into groups based on their departments.Those who teach pure sciences will be prepared to teach integrated science, which includes biology, chemistry, physics, and health education. Agriculture, home science, and computer studies will be highlighted in applied science training.Teachers will be retrained to teach English, Kiswahili, Kenya Sign Language, foreign and indigenous languages under the language category.Simultaneously, humanities education will emphasize social studies, religious studies, and life skills.Teachers will get new skills in business studies, music, sports, and physical education in order to teach technical and creative arts.Dr. Macharia went on to say that the training for sub-county directors, curriculum support officers, and tutors from teacher training institutions would take place from May 2 to May 6, while the training for teachers will take place from May 9 to May 13.With the pioneer pupils slated to enter junior secondary school in Grade 7 next year after completing their summative assessments in December, Dr Macharia stated that the TSC will ensure teachers are prepared to handle the challenges of the new curriculum.“The TSC has continued to prepare all teachers for the phased implementation of the CBC,” she said.ALSO READ:So far, she said, “we consistently ensured that relevant teachers were trained for all levels including the Grade Six, which will be covered starting next month.”Approximately 229,292 teachers have received CBC training in the previous three years, with an additional 191,515 expected to be educated in the following three years.60,000 Teachers Gear up for CBC Training
