Nairobi Scholarships, Bursaries to Benefit Needy Students from 85 Wards
Governor Johnson Sakaja of Nairobi stated on Sunday that his administration has boosted bursaries for eligible students in all wards of the capital city.
However, it is not all. Through his Governor’s scholarship program, the County Chief has also begun sponsoring needy, intelligent students through their secondary school.
During a church session at Jesus Teaching Ministry in Embakasi East, Sakaja disclosed that he had delegated the distribution of bursary forms in the city to his County Chief Officers.
On Sunday evening, a total of 300 forms were distributed throughout Nairobi.
“Get all candidates who sat for KCPE and performed well, getting above 350 marks, I will not give them bursaries for one term, I will sponsor them from Form One to Form Four. That is scholarship. I have brought you 50 forms.
“Those 50 young people, I will educate them until they finish high school,” He told the church
“These are full scholarships to support needy bright SchoolSecondary School Students from Nairobi County to access education in Public National, Extra-County and County Schools countrywide for the full four-year secondary school cycle” reiterated the Governor
This academic year, Governor Sakaja has said he will distribute a total of Ksh 1,025,000,000 in Executive Scholarships and Ward Bursaries.
Each of the 85 Wards will get Ksh 6M in Ward Bursaries, up from Ksh 4.5M in 2022.
The Ward Bursaries are distributed by Ward Bursary Committees, which are overseen by the MCAs in the region.
Through Nairobi City County Public Primary Schools, the remaining forms will be distributed.
Sakaja stated that the procedure was transparent and cautioned, “we will not condone corruption in Nairobi.
“And if we hear anybody trying to sell those scholarships or bursaries, they will go home immediately and they will be prosecuted,”
