MKU Unveils Agriculture Centre Of Excellence.
The Nakuru campus of Mount Kenya University (MKU) has been classified as a centre of excellence for Animal Health, Agriculture, and Education research, thereby providing a significant boost to the nation’s goal of food security.
Prof. Deogratius Jaganyi, vice chancellor of MKU, stated that the campus is now better suited to train future leaders of the country’s agriculture sector.
Addressing stakeholders in Thika town on Wednesday, the VC stated that the campus has gotten the greatest training and research equipment to assist training in agriculture, animal health, and education science programs.
According to him, it has also led to a rise in student enrollment, academic programs, and research resources.
“The university Senate has also approved Master of Science in Crop Protection and Photo-Sanitary Science, and the Diploma in Animal Health and Production (upgrading). Also approved is a revised curriculum for the Bachelor of Science in Animal Health,” Prof. Jaganyi said.
After the Thika main campus, which excels in medical and human health, the Nairobi campus, which excels in business and graduate studies, the Parklands Law campus, which excels in legal training, and the Mombasa campus, which specializes in maritime studies and the blue economy, this campus is the most recent to achieve centre of excellence status.
The vice chancellor also stated that the university has invested millions of shillings in cutting-edge research equipment, making it one of the best-equipped academic and research institutions in East Africa.
He stated that they are developing a framework for public interaction with their equipment.
“The University has embarked on the revision of its research policy in an effort to include newly developed guidelines for access to research equipment by members of the public,” said the VC.
