Migori TTC To Offer PTE Diploma CertificatesAccording to the institution’s Chief Principal, Dr. Emilly Kibet, Migori Teachers Training College will be one of the first six teachers’ colleges in the country to offer diploma courses in primary teacher education.Dr. Kibet explained that the college that represents the nation has teacher-students from all 47 counties and already offers a three-year diploma in primary teacher education. In addition, the institution began offering early childhood development education and a one-year primary teacher education upgrade course. It also claims to be a special needs education center under the Kenya Institute of Special Education.Dr. Kibet attributed this initiative to the lecturers’ unwavering commitment to research and dedication to quality service delivery. With a total population of 517 students, 200 of whom are male and 317 of whom are female, the college also boasts of maintaining a high performance ranking in primary teacher education national exams for many years.Dr. Kibet attributed the good performance to a number of measures implemented by the school administration in collaboration with other education stakeholders and student leaders at the institution.“Our lecturers have attended capacity building seminars, training and workshops organized by the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) and the Ministry of Education together with the Teachers’ Service Commission, facilitated by the institution which enables them to develop their teaching skills,” she said. The college also exposes trainees to various tasks during class activities and transformative assessments, with the primary goal of ensuring that teachers’ trainees are accorded and attain quality skills for future callings. The principal also stated that the college encourages its students to compete in co-curricular activities with other colleges across the country. These include drama, music, ball games, and athletics, which have allowed them to showcase their diverse talents at the national level. She did, however, list a number of issues plaguing the institution that are interfering with its smooth operation.Among them, according to Dr. Kibet, the institution’s human resource is understaffed, particularly the teaching staff, and there are severe financial constraints that impede teaching and learning activities. These, she observes, are a hindrance to the institution’s 2022/27 strategic plan’s realization. She asked for help from well-wishers to address some of the difficult issues.Despite the institution’s formidable challenges, Dr. Kibet boasts of adequately equipped lecturers who are skilled in Information, Communication, and Technology (ICT) for digital literacy.A total of 29 lecturers participate in collaborative learning with other colleges, which has resulted in virtual knowledge and skill sharing. She, on the other hand, is adamant that they must persevere in order to get the most out of the limited resources available and provide a better future for the youth. “I wish to pass my sincere gratitude to the Board of Management led by Mr Michael Ogutu for their relentless support and facilitation towards the achievement by the institution despite the tough financial time.” Dr. Kibet said. The college, which is located in Migori town’s central business district along the Migori – Sirare highway, allows learners and staff to easily access other essential services such as health, market, and other government offices for services in the surrounding area.Migori TTC To Offer PTE Diploma Certificates
