Matiang’i Announces Monday a Public Holiday
Kenyans have been reminded that Monday, October 10, is a public holiday to commemorate Utamaduni Day.
“All citizens are reminded to honor the day by recognizing and celebrating the rich cultural diversity of Kenya in a manner that promotes our unity, national cohesion, and economic progress,” a statement by Interior CS Fred Matiang’i reads in part.Â
Every year on October 10, Utamaduni Day is observed to commemorate the country’s rich cultural diversity and heritage.
Previously, the day was designated as Moi Day in honor of the late President Daniel Moi, who ascended to power in 1978 after the death of the founding president, Mzee Jomo Kenyatta.
It was then renamed Huduma Day, and two years ago, Utamaduni Day.
