Maranda Boys Dormitory Set On Fire Once Again

Richard Karani, Bondo Deputy County Commissioner, has confirmed that Maranda High School in Siaya County has been set on fire once more.

The fire started at the Boaz Owino a few minutes ago and that the police had just arrived at the school to gather more information.

“We have just been informed that the fire began this morning. We are on our way to look into it,” Karan told The Standard.

All Form Four students were sent home indefinitely on Thursday for allegedly refusing to take mock exams and threatening to burn down the school.

Nelson Sifuna, Siaya County Director of Education, confirmed to The Standard that over 400 students were sent home on Thursday morning.

“The internal mock exams, which were scheduled for Monday, December 6, have since been postponed to a later date, which will be communicated,” he said.

According to Sifuna, the students threatened to torch the school’s learning and accommodation facilities on Tuesday night.

One of Maranda High School‘s teachers, who spoke to The Standard on the condition of anonymity, said the decision to send the students home was made on Thursday morning.
