Police in Kirinyaga County have begun a manhunt for a 54-year-old man who allegedly defiled a Class 5 pupil at Muthigini village, Gichugu Constituency.
Gichugu police boss Mr. Anthony Mbogo says the suspect is a Sunday School teacher at a local church. The minor is said to be a member of the said church.
The girl’s parents told the police that the suspect lured her to his residence last Tuesday when she was doing some work at a local maize mill.
Her grandmother realized that she had difficulties walking after, and upon interrogation, she revealed what had happened to her. Her family took her to the hospital, where she received medical treatment.
Gichugu police boss Anthony Mbogo says up to 10 cases of defilement have been reported in the area in the last 30 days. He urged parents to be cautious, and at the same time promised to take stern actions against the perpetrators of this crime.
