Magoha Strongly Defends CBC. “It’s Here To Stay."George Magoha, Cabinet Secretary for Education, has stated that the Competency-Based Curriculum will not be abandoned even after his tenure ends.Magoha stated that the implementation of CBC is at the midwifery level during the release of KCSE exam results on Saturday.“Who is this saying he will scrap CBC,” he posed.He stated that 6,407 classrooms for junior secondary schools have been completed so far, with an additional 3,000 classrooms expected to be completed by August."The classrooms’ construction will not be hampered by the general elections. We are not elected officials "He stated."Phase two of the construction of CBC classrooms will begin in May and the classes will be completed before President Uhuru Kenyatta leaves office."He stated that the CBC curriculum is on track, and the first class is scheduled to begin Grade 6 when schools reopen on Monday."Consequently, after schools re-open, there will be more than 9 million children learning under the CBC curriculum,” he said.Previously, the CS stated that CBC is steering students away from exam-oriented learning and toward skills that will help them succeed in the future.He claimed that money spent on implementing the curriculum would be squandered if CBC is scrapped.Magoha stated that enough teachers have been trained for the program.The Competency-Based Curriculum under the 2-6-3-3 education system in Kenya was unveiled in 2017 to replace the 8-4-4 education system.Simultaneously, Education CS George Magoha assured parents that the government has put in place the necessary measures to ensure that there are enough teachers for the CBC rollout.ALSO READ:“Beginning May 3, we shall work tirelessly to ensure that all the 2021 KCPE exam candidates join Form One in the letter and spirit of the 100 percent transition policy.”Secondary schools are severely understaffed, and more teachers will be needed next year when the CBC is implemented in secondary schools, as well as a double intake.Magoha Strongly Defends CBC. “It’s Here To Stay.”
