Machogu Appoints New University Councils; List Per University
The Education Cabinet Secretary, Ezekiel Machogu, has recently made several new appointments to the councils of various public universities in the country.
These appointments, as announced in a Monday gazette notice, will be valid for a period of three years.
The new councils officially began their terms on Tuesday. Let’s take a closer look at the appointments made for each university:
Chuka University Council
For Chuka University, David Serrem has been appointed as the new chairperson of the council.
According to Machogu, Prof. David T. K. Serrem will serve as the Chairperson for the next three years, starting from May 23, 2023.
In addition to Serrem, the council will also include Crispus Micheni Ndeke, Linet Kwamboka Maganda, Samuel Gacheru Gitonga, Zephania Rwanda Mbaka, and Margaret Makhungu as members.
Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology (JOOUST) Council:
The CS appointed new council members for JOOUST, including David Moranga Oyugi, Joan Atieno Odawa, Ambeyi Ligavo, and Isaac Kiprop Chebon.
All these council members will serve a three-year term.
Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) Council:
The new council members for JKUAT are John H. Nderitu, Hassan Abdi Mohammed, Joel Yego, Angeline Nduku Kioko, and Velma Mudasa.
Kenya Advanced Institute of Science and Technology Council:
Emmanuel Mutisya has been appointed as the new Chairperson of the Kenya Advanced Institute of Science and Technology Council.
Other members appointed to the council include Washington O. Yotto, Collins K. Tanui, Meshak Kidenda, and Purity Mureithi.
Kisii University Council:
At Kisii University, Sara Ruto has been appointed as the new council chair, and Samson Mucheluleas will join as a new council member.
However, the appointment of Irene Caroline Chizupo has been revoked by the CS.
Laikipia University:
Margaret Maimba’s appointment to the Laikipia University Council has been revoked, and new members appointed are Charles Anyanga Malalah, Paul Bore, Marie Wanjeri Mugo, and Sereya Beatrice Maitoyo.
Masai Mara University:
Dickson Malanga Shikanga, Peter Ole Nkuraiya, Susan Chebet, and Elizabeth Ayoo have been appointed as new council members.
On the other hand, Lucy Kiria’s appointment has been revoked.
Maseno University:
Naftali Omolo Ongati has been appointed as the new Chairperson of the Maseno University Council.
The council members include Matilda Chemutai Sang, Darius Getanda Isaboke, and Ponyochi Kunyobo.
Masinde Muliro University Council:
Pamela Sitienei has been appointed as the new Chairperson of Masinde Muliro University Council.
The council members include Grace Wanja Kimotho, Kennedy Ochieng Olungo, Dorothy Kimeu, George Akolo Lutomia, and Susan Nyaboke Nyasinga.
Jacqueline Muthoni Mwangi’s appointment has been revoked.
Pwani University:
Mohamed Salim Badamana has been appointed as the new Chairperson of the Pwani University Council.
Council members include Benjamin Mweri, Sang Kiptanui David, Samuel Kaloki, and Fatma Mohammed.
The appointments of Samuel Ocholla, Renee Agnes Muthoni Kariuki, Nyachae Samuel Bernard Iria, and Noor Dahir Yusuf have been revoked.
South Eastern Kenya University:
Esther Wanjiru Ndirangu has been appointed as a new member of the Council. Harriet Chiggai’s appointment has been revoked.
Technical University of Mombasa (TUM):
The new council members for TUM are Mohamed Loo, Alison Kariuki, Paul Mwasaaru Mwazumbo, Grace Nekoye Katasi, and Asma Hadi Awadh. The appointment of Anne Sabania has been revoked.
Turkana University College:
Peter Salim Ndemo has been appointed as the new Chairperson of Turkana University College.
New council members include Nelisa Kagendo Mbaka, Jared Oyier, Shadrack Kemoi Lomuywara, Dominic Kimutai Biwott, and Carolyne Ekwom.
Anastacia W. Kamau’s appointment has been revoked.
UoN) Council:
Amukowa Anangwe is the new chairperson of the University of Nairobi Council, while Ahmed Sheikh Abdullai, Darmain ole Warkae, Caren Kerubo Omwenga, and Sally Ngeringwony Toroitich have been appointed as council members.
The gazette notice numbers 8074, 8075, and 9959 of 2022 have been revoked.
In conclusion, the Education Cabinet Secretary, Ezekiel Machogu, has made significant appointments to the councils of various public universities in Kenya.
These appointments will shape the governance and decision-making processes of these universities for the next three years.
