Leaders Pay Tributes To Prof. George Magoha

Leaders across the country, including President William Ruto, have expressed their condolences on the death of former Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha.

Magoha died at the Nairobi Hospital on Tuesday evening at the age of 71.

The leaders shared their condolence messages through their social media handles, stating that the death of the former CS was a huge loss to the education sector.

President Ruto described Magoha as a “towering giant of our time” and a great leader who excelled in learning, teaching, research, and administration.

He said that Magoha led robust turnaround interventions at the University of Nairobi and the Exams Council and throughout his tenure in the education sector, he demonstrated commitment to high standards in public service and uncompromising integrity.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua said that Magoha will be remembered for his independence of mind and fearlessness.

He said that Magoha was an accomplished professional who served Kenya with zeal, as witnessed when he served as the CS for Education and other posts held earlier.

In his field of medicine, Gachagua said that Magoha had made immense contributions to the practice of medicine and research.

He added that Magoha left an indelible mark on the education sector, rising through the ranks to become the Vice-Chancellor at the University of Nairobi, the Chairperson at the Exams Council, and as the CS for Education.

Former President Uhuru Kenyatta, who appointed Magoha as the Education CS in January 2018, described Magoha as “a celebrated academic who leaves behind a strong legacy of public service.”

He said that it was unfortunate and painful that they have lost Magoha at a time when his family is mourning his brother. Azimio leader Raila Odinga described Magoha as a dedicated public servant and a transformational leader.

He said that Magoha was an illustrious scholar and a distinguished medical doctor who left an indelible mark on the country’s education system.

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi said that Magoha will be remembered as a staunch believer in self-actualization.

He said that Magoha took to his tasks with gusto and a single-minded determination that is rare.

Many will recall his iron-clad grip on the University of Nairobi as Vice-Chancellor, and lately as Cabinet Secretary for Education.

Cabinet Secretary Ministry of Defence Aden Duale noted that the good professor will be remembered for many things, among them, the reforms he brought to the education sector.

He said that the life and service of Prof. Magoha is the gift he leaves the country. Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka said Magoha epitomized the necessity of focus, hard work, and diligence. He said that the late was an exceptional leader who will be greatly missed.

National Assembly speaker Moses Wetangula noted that the death of the professor was a big loss and blow to the education sector.

He said that he had vivid memories of this great and tough scholar who had distinguished himself by his immense contribution to the education sector of the country.

Wetangula added that Magoha will be fondly remembered for his selfless service in impacting change in the education sector.

Overall, leaders across the country have eulogized Magoha as a dedicated leader who made significant contributions to the education sector and will be greatly missed.
