Kwale Parents Warned Against Inciting Students In A Plan To Oust Principal

Parents in Kwale have been warned not to incite their children to violence.

The latest development comes just days after students at Mwamgunga Girls’ High School in Tsimba staged a protest against their principal.

The students demanded that the principal be fired, accusing her of a number of wrongdoings. The head vehemently denied any wrongdoing.

Both parents and students took to the streets to air their grievances, blocking the Kombani-Kwale road and attempting to vandalize vehicles.

Recently, the parents attempted to bar the principal from entering her office, causing a commotion in the school.

Ambrose Steve Oloo, the county police commander, condemned the act and warned parents and students not to use force.

“Anyone found breaking the law will be charged in a court of law,” he said.

Parents, according to Oloo, have no right to interfere with the work of the Ministry of Education and the Teachers’ Service Commission.

He stated that parents do not have the authority to choose which principals or teachers should be assigned to which schools.

He stated that any complaint should be filed through the proper channels in order for legal action to be taken.

Further harassment of the principal or any other teacher in the region, according to the officer, would be treated as a criminal offence.

However, parents and students have insisted that the school principal be fired. They asserted that it is their right to ensure that students are safe and receive the appropriate education.

Rashid Saidi stated that they will not back down until the principal is fired and action is taken against her.

Some parents have threatened to relocate their children if the government does not meet their demands.

Alexander Mativo, the deputy county commissioner for Matuga, stated that investigations were ongoing. He noted that when they have gathered enough data, the school administration, parents, and teachers will be involved in the decision-making process.

Meanwhile, the county security team is investigating new cases of school arson in the area. Within a week, two fires were reported, stranding hundreds of students and destroying property.

The most recent incident occurred at Mwaluphamba Secondary School, where students were forced to spend the night standing after their dormitory caught fire on Thursday night.
