KUPPET Reviews Maximum Deduction Per Teacher For County Branch BBF Benefits
The Kenya Union Of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) has released new guidelines on how to run the County Branch BBF kitty.
Matters of death involving KUPPET members have been criticized in the past with teachers facing difficulties when their members pass on. It is for this reason that KUPPET established BBF on individual branches to offer solutions to these difficulties.
Due to BBF challenges encountered, the National Governing Council Welfare (NGCW) Committee has released some new guidelines. Under the new guidelines, union branches have been asked to start one with a charging limit not exceeding Ksh150.
The nature of the BBF beneficiaries will mostly cover nuclear families and at most 2 parents with NGCW monitoring the burial benevolent funds to guarantee smooth performance.
Branch secretariat staff will contribute and equally benefit just like other members. The benefits will be reviewed during annual general meetings (AGM) and will be classified as follows:
NGCW shall announce a window for receiving BBF based complains and challenges from all its branches to the NGCW chairman with individual branches formulating tools to prevent fraud from members during claims.
Branches source of funds may come through innovativeness such as fundraising and income-generating projects with each branch appointing an auditor for each consecutive year during AGMs. The auditor shall not be an office-bearer or a delegate of the scheme.
The committee shall conduct a special AGM and the KUPPET head office will control all BFFs. The executive committee shall be held 3 times a year or once every term.
The above review comes at a time when unions have been criticised for not aiding the demands of teachers and especially after signing a non-monetary Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) with the teachers’ employer, TSC.
