KUCCPS Lists 153 Govt Sponsored Courses for D- and E Students

The Kenyan government uses the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) to place students in tertiary institutions across the country.

The placement is based on students’ performance in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exam.

Students who score C+ and above are eligible for undergraduate degree courses, while those who score C plain and C minus are eligible for diploma courses.

Those who score D+ and D plain can apply for certificate courses, and D- and E students are eligible for artisan courses.

KUCCPS offers a total of 153 artisan courses for students who score D- and below in the KCSE exam.

These courses are classified into different clusters, which include Business, Building and Construction, Engineering and Technology, Food Science, Social Sciences, Applied Sciences, Information Technology, Hospitality, Hotel and Tourism, Clothing, Fashion and Textile, Agricultural Sciences, Natural Sciences, Technical Courses, Hair Dressing and Beauty Therapy, and Library and Information Sciences.

Artisan courses offered under the business cluster include Storekeeping, Secretarial, Supply Chain Management, and Office Assistance. The building and construction cluster offers courses in Building Technology, Masonry, and Electrical Installation, among others.

Under the Engineering and Technology program, students can choose from courses such as Electrical Installation, Automotive Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering.

However, the Social Sciences, Applied Sciences, Hospitality, Hotel and Tourism, and Natural Sciences clusters do not offer artisan courses. Under the Information Technology Cluster, KUCCPS only offers one artisan course in Information Communication Technology.

The Clothing, Fashion and Textile cluster offers courses in Fashion Design and Garment Making, Design and Garment Making Technology, and Dressmaking and Tailoring, among others.

D- and E students passionate about Agricultural courses can take courses in General Agriculture and Agribusiness. Technical courses available include Carpentry and Joinery, Plumbing, Welding and Fabrication, and Motor Vehicle Mechanics, among others.

Hair Dressing and Beauty Therapy courses are also available, including courses in Hairdressing, Beauty Therapy, and Trade Tests.

Students can apply for these courses through the official KUCCPS website. If a student is placed for any course through KUCCPS, they are eligible for funding through the Universities Fund and Higher Education Loans Board (HELB).

In summary, the Kenyan government places students in tertiary institutions through KUCCPS based on their performance in the KCSE exam.

Students who score D- and below can take advantage of 153 artisan courses offered in various clusters. The courses are available on the KUCCPS website, and students can apply for funding through the HELB.
