The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has issued a warning about a scam perpetrated by a group claiming to enrol KCSE students in universities and colleges.

KUCCPS flagged the Colleges and Universities Placement Agency (CUPA) for undertaking roles that fall within its mandate in a notice issued on Tuesday, February 22.

According to the placement committee, CUPA wrote to various schools and principals to invite them to various seminars and workshops.

“KUCCPS wishes to distance itself from the activities of CUPA. Students, principals, and the general public are hereby notified that KUCCPS shall not be held liable for any contracts, partnerships and any engagements entered between them and CUPA,” read part of the statement.

Furthermore, KUCCPS stated that it is the only government institution mandated by the Universities Act, 2012 to coordinate the placement of government-sponsored students to universities and colleges, develop career guidance programs for the students’ benefit, and carry out other functions outlined in the Act.

“Therefore, any engagement with any organisation purporting to offer the aforesaid services on behalf of the government is unenforceable,” KUCCPS stated.

The placement body recently announced a second chance for KCSE students who took their exams between 2000 and 2021. Students would have the opportunity to pursue a TVET course in order to hone their craft.

The placement service also encouraged those who were interested to pursue their chosen course under government sponsorship.

The ongoing TVET course application is open to anyone who sat KCSE last year (2021) up to 2000, provided they have never been selected by KUCCPS to join a college.

Candidates for the KCSE were encouraged to apply through the KUCCPS portal.
