KNUT’s Deputy National Treasurer Ali Abdi Hussein has died
Ali Abdi Hussein, deputy national treasurer of the Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut), has died. Mr Hussein passed away while being treated at the Nairobi Hospital.
Mr Hussein was admitted to The Nairobi Hospital with Covid-19-related complications, according to Knut Secretary-General Collins Oyuu.
Mr. Oyuu stated that the official had made significant progress in the last three days.
Mr Hussein died on Sunday morning, according to Mr Oyuu, after his condition deteriorated.
“It is with a heavy and sad heart that I announce the untimely demise of our brother Mwalimu Ali Abdi Hussein who has been critically ill at the Nairobi Hospital for the last three weeks,” wrote Mr Oyuu.
He described Mr Hussein as a distinct leader, a hardworking servant, a soft-spoken, passionate, and progressive figure who served as Knut’s deputy national treasurer until his death.
He stated that Mr Hussein tirelessly advocated for the rights of Kenyan teachers.
“On behalf of the Knut national leadership, the National Executive Council, entire Knut-Kenya leadership and the teachers of Kenya, I wish to pass my sincere condolences to his family and friends,” he said.

According to Mr. Oyuu, the late Hussein leaves behind a young family.
“We mourn and pray with the family and friends at this moment of grief,” he said.
