KNUT, TSC CBA Talk: Classroom Teachers To Be Favored.

Teachers have been asked to be patient while Knut works with TSC to include classroom teachers in the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).

Speaking at the burial of former Bungoma Central Knut executive secretary Fred Sichangi at Sikusi in Kabuchai constituency on Saturday, Kennedy Nyamwanda, Knut national treasurer, urged TSC, the ministries of Education and Labour to ensure teachers’ welfare.

He stated that the previous agreement signed by TSC and Knut did not favor classroom teachers, but that this time the classroom teachers will be favored in a deal yet to be signed by TSC and other stakeholders.

“AS a Knut official, I am unhappy how teachers are being treated. They are working in an unfair environment, and that is why I have taken an initiative as their leader to make noise so that their grievances are addressed,” the unionist said.

Nyamwanda urged teachers to remain calm and support Knut’s efforts to advocate for their national interests.

“I want all teachers to rally behind Knut to ensure that every teacher is aware of what is going on and ensure that their demands are sorted,” he said.

Western region Knut chairman John Wesonga chastised the elected leaders for failing to fight for the interests of ordinary mwananchi while at the assembly.

He accused some politicians of making campaign promises to support education only to disappear after the election.

Kenya Kwanza principal Moses Wetang’ula, who was also present at the burial, stated that if the alliance is elected, it will support education to ensure that teachers work in a safe environment.

Wetang’ula claimed that while in government and as a senator, he supported teacher welfare.
