Tight Security In Coast Region As KCSE Exams Begins.
Coast Regional Commissioner (RC) John Elungata has assured candidates and exam managers that adequate security will be provided within examination centres during this year’s national examinations.
Elungata stated that sufficient security personnel would be stationed at all examination centres and vehicles transporting examination materials.
He stated that the exams will be kept in containers with tight police guards and that only Deputy County Commissioners (DCCs) and Sub County Directors of Education (SCDE) will have access to the containers.
This Monday, some Form Four students will begin their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations across the country.
The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has announced that 1, 2265, 507 candidates have registered for the 2021 KCPE, while 831,015 will take the KCSE this year.
Elungata stated during a visit to Taita Taveta County that the government is committed to a smooth start of the national exams.
He stated that the examinations will be properly guarded by national security officers and police personnel.
Elungata, the Chairman of the Regional Security and Intelligence Committee, stated that the exams will be conducted under strict security to prevent exam malpractices and irregularities.
He revealed that the government has put in place strict measures to prevent cheating in national exams.
According to the Senior Administrator, the government has sent extra security personnel to all schools in the troubled Lamu County, and candidates can be assured of their safety while taking the exams.
According to the Regional Commissioner, there is enough security for all exam centers, particularly those in Lamu, so that students can take their exams in a safe and peaceful environment.

Simultaneously, he stated that adequate health measures have been put in place in the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic to ensure that public examinations are held safely for candidates and exam personnel.
According to Elungata, more spacious halls are being used to space out the candidates taking the examinations in accordance with social distancing rules.
