KNEC Issues Strict Rules for KCPE and KCSE Exam Administration
Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has issued strict guidelines for preparing for the national exams, which will be held in two weeks.
Speaking at the official launch of the exams on Friday, February 18 at the Kenya School of Government, KNEC Chief Executive Officer (CEO) David Njeng’ere stated that the exams are ready to be administered across the country.
The CEO, who was accompanied by Cabinet Secretary for Interior Fred Matiang’i and his Education counterpart George Magoha, also unveiled a national padlock to represent how exam materials will be secured throughout Kenya to prevent loss and damage.
KNEC’s protocols included examination materials being handed out in person to Centre Managers and being escorted by armed security personnel during examination administration.
All County Directors of Education, in collaboration with their TSC counterparts, must ensure that Centre Managers, Supervisors, and Invigilators are briefed on their roles prior to the administration of the examinations.
The council also requires education officers to have briefing notes to help them administer examinations. It also provided programs for evaluating candidates for oral, aural, and practical exams.
KNEC also provided stationery for use during examination administration, such as timetables, attendance registers, reports, and certificates of supervision, among other documents.
KNEC also revealed a clear program for the return of candidates’ answer scripts for both KCPE and KCSE in this year’s tests.

To improve communication and examination monitoring, a command and call center was established.
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC), on the other hand, announced that it had identified and vetted 242,406 teachers to assist KNEC with exam administration.
TSC CEO Nancy Macharia has directed that all field officers on leave return to their workstations on Monday, February 20, 2022.
National exams will be given twice this academic year, in March and November.
