KNEC Invites Teachers To Apply For KCSE/KCPE Marking; How to Apply

Primary and secondary school teachers who want to mark the upcoming national exams have been invited to apply.

On Tuesday, August 16, the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) announced that it was accepting applications from qualified teachers to train as examiners for the upcoming Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) and Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE).

The training will begin on Sunday, September 18, 2022, and will last six days, ending on Saturday, September 24, 2022.

All candidates who are shortlisted must pay a training fee of Ksh10,500.

“The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) will be conducting training for teachers to prepare them to become examiners for the KCPE and KCSE examinations.”

“The venue for training will be communicated to the qualified applicants at a later date.
“Shortlisted applicants will be notified on how to make the payment.

Successful trainees will be incorporated into the KNEC examiners’ database. They will thereafter be engaged based on the needs using the criteria on recruitment of examiners,” read the statement in part.

KNEC is also looking for tutors for English Composition and Kiswahili Insha in primary schools, as well as Geography and Christian Religious Education in high schools.

History and government, Islamic Religious Education, agriculture, home science, computer studies, and biology are among the other high school subjects.

How to Apply

An applicant must be a practicing teacher in the relevant subject areas and have a valid Teachers Service Commission (TSC) number.

They should also have a minimum KCPE qualification of P1 with a minimum of a C (plain) at KCSE level in the subject they are applying to train in, as well as a Diploma in Education (or higher) for KCSE marking.

Other requirements include a minimum of three years of teaching experience, being free of any TSC disciplinary action, and being 50 or younger.

Applicants are expected to use the link to access the KNEC examiners’ portal.

Those with CP2 accounts should use their usernames and passwords to access the portal.

Those who have forgotten their CP2 passwords should click the reset password button, enter their mobile number in the format (2547), and then submit to receive new passwords for logging into the system.

Those who do not have a CP2 account should click Create an Account and follow the instructions to obtain login credentials to access the system.

After successfully logging in, applicants are expected to complete and save their personal profile.


On the dashboard, they should click the ‘apply for training’ button, which will display all of the declared vacancies for applicants to choose from.

The KCPE exam will be administered from November 28 to December 1, while the KCSE exam will be administered from December 1 to December 23.

The marking period will last from January 2, 2023, to January 20, 2023.
