How to Check KCPE, KCSE and Grade 6 Registration Details Through SMS

The Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) has launched an SMS platform for 2022 Grade Six, Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE), and Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) candidates to verify registration details.

In a statement issued on Saturday, May 28, the examination body advised school administrators and parents to ensure that their children are properly registered ahead of the November and December exams this year.

According to KNEC, details can be obtained by sending examination details to the SMS number 20076.

“Headteachers, parents, and candidates can now confirm the registration details for 2022 KPSEA, KCPE and KCSE examinations by sending an SMS to 20076. Use this format; (Exam)(Index Number), for example; KCPE36611030002, and send to 20076. You will receive a confirmation message,” KNEC stated.

Before entering junior secondary school, Grade Six students will be assessed using the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) for the first time.

Speaking at the release of the 2021 KCSE examinations, Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha provided registration guidelines for the 2022 examination class, stating that the exams will run smoothly despite his departure in August.

“To the headteachers and principals, we are disappointed that you have yet to start registering students and pupils for the forthcoming KPSEA, KCPE, and KCSE exams which must be ready.

“Please ensure that every child is registered. I hope we are not going to argue about this. The government is paying exam fees for all students. It is the children’s right,” he stated.

Magoha expressed concern that some school principals were demanding registration fees from students despite the fact that the government was paying for them.

Magoha warned that schools that violated the Ministry’s examination directive would face disciplinary action.

“When I look at the KNEC portal, I get discouraged. Our headteachers and principals think that we will extend the registration deadline.”

In the 2021 national examinations, 1,225,597 KCPE students sat for the exams while 826,807 students sat for KCSE.

Furthermore, he stated that the registration deadline, which was set for May 14, will not be extended.
