Kisumu Boys High School Fire Destroys Dormitory
On Saturday, August 20, a fire engulfed several buildings at Kisumu Boys High School in Kisumu County.
George Magoha, Cabinet Secretary for Education, condemned the Saturday morning, August 20, fire that destroyed several buildings at Kisumu Boys High School.
While speaking to the press, Magoha stated that all parents would be held responsible for the incident, which occurred two days after schools reopened for the second term.
The CS issued a warning to those responsible for the frivolous attempts to disrupt their school calendar, assuring them that the school would not be closed.
“If you are mad, why don’t you start by burning the house of your father? We don’t play such games. The parents will rebuild and that’s how it is, pure and simple,” he affirmed.
According to preliminary reports, the fire started just after 9 a.m., and the cause has yet to be determined.
The majority of the buildings damaged were classrooms, with nearly five completely destroyed by fire.
One dormitory was also said to have caught fire during the process before it was put out.
As students were evacuated to a safer location, police and firefighters rushed to the institution to put out the fire.
In addition, emergency personnel from the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) were dispatched to assist county firefighters in resolving the situation.
Students were asked to remove their personal belongings from the dormitories as a precaution, as administrators feared the fire would spread to other nearby buildings.
It was unclear whether the students were present in the classrooms at the time of the fire.
Kisumu Central Sub-county Police Commandant Jactone Mango confirmed the incident, stating that investigations had begun and that a preliminary report would be released as soon as it was completed.

The morning fire incident resulted in no injuries or fatalities. The total amount of property destroyed had yet to be determined.
The fire occurs just two days after schools reopened after a two-week election break.
