The KCB Foundation has awarded 1,000 disadvantaged students who took the KCPE in 2022 with scholarships.

The students will enter Form 1 between February 6 and February 13.

Following the completion of a nationwide effort to find worthy students, scholarships are awarded.

Beneficiaries were selected from vulnerable and marginalized families, with 100 places reserved for people with disabilities and 50% for girls.

On Monday, the KCB group director of marketing and communications, Rosalind Gichuru, stated that the foundation looks out academically brilliant but economically disadvantaged students.

Gichuru stated that the Foundation focuses on students who are vulnerable due to a variety of conditions.

In addition to gender or disability, this could involve marginalization, orphanhood, disability, or detrimental cultural practices.

“We do this by going beyond paying tuition fees to providing mentorship and later, apprenticeship at our branches,” Gichuru said.

The KCB Foundation has allocated 100 million Kenyan shillings for the scholarship program.

The funds will cater four years of tuition, uniforms, transportation, tuition costs, regular mentoring sessions, and psychosocial assistance.

“We are keen on going all the way with the students who receive the scholarship. By the time they enter the world of work, they will be prepared and equipped with the skills and experience needed to make it in a quickly-evolving world,” Gichuru said.

The KCB Foundation received more than 10,000 applications for this cohort, the most since the program’s start in 2007.

The class of 2023 will be the sixteenth cohort of the scholar’s program, which currently has 1,962 students.

Beginning with last year’s graduating class, all high school students who sit for the KCSE examination receive full tuition assistance through tertiary scholarships.
