A school in Kapedo has been evacuated following the heightening level of insecurity experienced in the region. One person was shot
dead on Monday 11th by bandits at the volatile Turkana and Baringo border
Kapedo mixed secondary school students were relocated to the village under tight protection by the police following the attack just one week after the full reopening.
In a video captured by a local in Kapedo, Baringo county displays the panicked students of Kapedo mixed secondary school alighting from a police vehicle.
The fright was caused by bandits who attacked a nearby village
and started spraying bullets. According to the area residents,
the bandits alleged they were looking for stolen livestock.
One person was killed during the shooting. Several communities living in the area been involved in disputes accelerated by cattle raids
and a fight over hiding spots which has kept a good number of
learners out of school.
Security has been beefed up in the region with police from
the Rapid Deployment Unit (RDU) and the General Service Unit (GSU)
deployed to flush out the bandits and qual detention.
